"Nobody Knows" is a story about four abandoned child. Their mother left them with just a small amount of money and went to marry a man. The story focused on the burden the eldest son, Akira, was carrying. Because he was the older brother, so he was responsible in taking care of his little sisters and brother. It was not easy when he was only fourteen!
The story started with the mother and the four siblings arrived at their new home. Just a small apartment actually. The children were not allowed to leave the house as the mother brought them into the house without the consent of the landlord. If she was found out bring them to live in the small apartment, they would be kicked out. Only Akira was allowed in leaving the house as he was responsible to buy things for home needs and stuffs when their mother out for work. All four of them didn't go to school even though they wanted too because their mother didn't let them. Their life was so pitiful but because they thought their mother would always be there with them, they lived happily even though in that poor condition.
But, things were not always good. One day, the mother came home from her work in 'Osaka' and quickly packed her stuffs into a baggage. She told her children that she was going somewhere for work purpose but actually she was marrying a rich man that didn't know anything about her having 4 children. Akira, just the mature boy among the siblings, were suspicious with his mother's action. But he didn't question it since his mother promised to him that she would come back on the Christmas. She then left after giving some money to Akira.
Months passed, their mother still hadn't come back. She didn't even show up on the Christmas. The money she left was now becoming little and little. Akira was so worried. If their mother didn't come back soon, they would have no money for foods and other stuffs. And his little sisters and brother also kept asking, "When is mother coming home? When is mother coming home?" Akira didn't have the answer for that. He also knew this would happen and lost the hope already. He knew that their mother was not coming home anymore. She had left them all.
The real story began after that. The siblings now have to live without their mother. Akira had to take care of his siblings on his own. And yes, it was not easy at all. There were also times when he was about to give up. But he came back to his senses soon after. As days went by, the water supply in their house was cut, and also the electricity. The siblings had no choice but to eat and sleep in darkness during the night, bathing at the park nearby. The life they were going through was so sad that I cried really hard while watching. Their home was no longer organized. Stuffs were scattered all over the floor. They also wore the same clothes everyday. THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING TO EAT! I cried, cried, cried and cried as I watched the movie. I cried harder at the part when Akira found his brother munching something in mouth early in the morning. He asked him, "What are you eating?" because he knew they didn't have any food during that time. The little brother answered him, "Paper"
The ending was so sad. I couldn't stop crying even after I've finished watching the movie. This is a must watch movie. Because it teaches us a lot of the unseen things. It's an old movie, yeah, 2004. But who cares!? Do watch this if you have some free time. It's really worth watching movie.
