Now I'm here to share about my experience during the trip to Temburong on last 24th June 2012. It was really a great experience. Going for the trip was really a good decision. I was able to have so much fun with everyone and I even talked to those that I never talked to at school. Okay, let's start.
On that morning of 24th June 2012, I got ready with my sport attire and stuffs at around 5 am. But since my father woke up late, I only left the house at 6 am. After picking up Haru-chan at her house, we went straight to the Jetty, where we were supposed to gather and wait for the boat. Arriving there, there were already a lot of our friends waiting.
(At the jetty, waiting for the boat)
(At the jetty, waiting for the boat. That's Belle, the one at the middle with her guy friend. Far right is our Ms. President last year)
(The view which could be seen from the jetty)
Can you see there? Everyone seemed so excited! Some even couldn't sit still. And they were all smiling so happily. While waiting for the boat, I was chatting with Haru-chan, Belle, Rikia and some other friends. We talked about how we were looking forward for the activities and what we could see once we arrive at Temburong. We were so excited! Some also talked about their worry of getting on the boat. Some were afraid, some were excited and some were just...relax. Hahaha. Our lecturers arrived at the jetty a little bit later than scheduled. After taking our attendance, we were asked to decided to be on the same boat with which lecturer (There were four lecturers coming with us). Me and Haru-chan, of course chose our beloved Geo lecturer, Mr. Rama. The boats arrived around 7 am, one was small and one was a bit bigger. Haru-chan and me, got onto the bigger boat. It was a bit shaky when we stepped onto the boat and since it was Haru-chan first time (I think), she was a bit scared. Oh, it was not my first time :D
(Inside the boat. The seats were just like a bus so it was comfortable, compared to the smaller boat)
(Inside the boat. A photo of memory. From left to right: Haru-chan and me)
(I took this photo from inside the boat)
The boat me and Haru-chan rode on was very comfortable compared to the smaller one. I heard a lot of funny comments from our friends who were in the same boat as us. One of the funny comments that made me laughed was, "Is there no aircond?" Hahaha! There was no need for aircond, seriously. As the boat moved (so fast!), the wind started blowing and it was even colder than aircond as it was early in the morning. I was freezing! After filling the fuel at the station, we started our journey to Temburong. Haru-chan who sat next to me was so nervous and when the boat moved, she sat up straight like a robot. I laughed! But, later, she started to relax and together we enjoyed the view that we could see from inside the boat. Along the way, we could see a lot of stuffs! Like houses above the water (We called these houses as Kampong Ayer), flora and fauna. It was really a nice view! We then went further into the sea till all we could see was just sea and plants at the side. The journey took about one hour. Haru-chan fell asleep on the way. I was sleepy as well but I couldn't close my eyes as it was so COLD! I was FREEZING! My whole body was shaking.
(The board says "Arrival")
Finally! We arrived at the port in Temburong! Everyone got out of the boat very slowly and careful. I was still freezing due to the cold wind. Once we stepped outside, I could feel the different air! The air was not the same like the one at the city. It was so FRESH! Haru-chan was like, "So this is Temburong!"
(Walking to the 'pasar' where we could buy things like foods and drinks)
Our lecturer gave us few minutes to go at the see the 'Pasar'. I don't what to call 'pasar' in English but pasar is actually a place where there is a lot of small stalls where we could find things like foods and drinks. But because it was early in the morning and it was Sunday, there was only a few stalls that was opened. Me and Haru-chan didn't buy anything. We were just looking around at what kind of stuffs we could find there. I found a lot of cats! Cute cats! And they are all fats! Man, I love cats! Just right next to the 'pasar', there was a small playground. So we (Me, Haru-chan, Rikia and others) went to play for awhile.
(At the park. Above: Me, wearing blue and Rikia, wearing green. Below: Haru-chan)
(At the playground. Haru-chan giving a peace sign!)
(Still at the playground)
Actually Haru-chan was quite surprised to see things like playground, buildings and ports at Temburong. She seriously thought that Temburong was still uncivilized. Hahah. She can be stupid sometimes (No, ALL the time!) Temburong, although it is a remote district, it is also now developing. There are lotsa stuffs that we can find at the city which can also be found in Temburong. The sun was already quite high at the sky. While we were busy playing at the playground like kids, we were called and told to proceed to the rest house which was not far from there.
(The rest house)
(Arrived at the rest house!)
(At the rest house)
(Me! Just behind the rest house)
At the rest house, there was breakfast provided for us. Thank God! I was hungry at that time so I ate a lot. Hehe. After we had our breakfast, we stayed at the rest house for about an hour. It was fun there! And there was also a lot of cats. I named the smallest one, "Yuto" ! Hahah xD I wanted to take one home but that's impossible. There, we played around like kids again.
After about an hour, we were divided into 3 groups and each group has a leader. Luckily, me and Haru-chan were in the same group under Mat as the leader so we were in the same bus. There was three buses waiting for us outside the rest house. After making sure that everything was fine, our lecturers told us to get into the bus according to our group.
(The bus me and Haru-chan rode on)
On the bus, we started our journey to our first destination!! To Bukit Patoi! It's a hill in Temburong :D And yeah, we were going to hike! One of my hobbies!
(It says, "Welcome to Bukit Patoi")
(A group photo for memory before we started hiking the hill)
(Heading to the briefing site)
(Recognize me? Hahah. I'm the one at the middle. Right is Haru-chan and left is Rikia)
(Things we saw on our way to the briefing site)
(Finally arrived the briefing site)
(Everyone was listening very carefully to the instructor during the briefing session)
We arrived at Bukit Patoi at around 9-something- AM. Before going to the briefing site, we took a group photo together! Heheh. I managed to get the spot at the middle. Then we all headed to the site where we would be briefed about things that we were allowed and not allowed to do while we were in the jungle. We were also warned not to say 'bad stuffs' because there was possibility that someone was listening. Nothing came into my mind my 'GHOSTS'! The briefing session took just about 15 minutes, then after that we did some warming up. When were ready, we started hiking.
I was very energetic at first but slowly I became tired. I think it was because I didn't really do exercise lately and the last time I hiked was...two years ago. I kept stopping along the way when the others were already up there. Some of my friends already gave up and decided to go back to the starting point. Luckily Haru-chan was with me and she really helped a lot, like helping me to carry my bag and stuffs. I was about to give up but I didn't and kept going...up...up...stairs...stairs...stopped....continued again...up...up... until I reached the point where I could no longer force myself. I stopped. Heheh xD But not only me alone. There was also two juniors and a friend from another class. I told Haru-chan to just keep going without me and she left. After the four of us had enough rest, we decided to go back to the starting point.
We arrived at the starting point after about 30 minutes together with one of our lecturer who also got tired half way. There, we waited for the others to come back. Haru-chan came back with the others about few minutes later. They were all looking so red and Haru-chan was shaking all over. They reached the top! I'm happy that they did it! When everyone had arrived, we rest for awhile.
(The view that could see from the top. Taken by the Haru-chan)
(After hiking. Look at their tired faces)
(Belle, wearing red and me, wearing blue)
(Uwaaah! Rikia joined in :D)
Rikia and Belle arrived first before Haru-chan, so we took pictures together. Hahah. Look at their tired faces. At least they reached the top, while me...I reached only half way. So, embarrassing but hehe, relaxing waiting for them was fun too. And I was with the others who gave up half way as well and we talked a lot. It was quite surprising since I never talked to them at school. I don't even know their names! (I still don't know their name yet...I didn't ask that day ==')
After resting for awhile and when everyone was ready to go, we all got back into the bus and the driver brought us back to the rest house. But just the girls. The boys were dropped at the 'Balai Bomba' (I don't know what it called in English...hmmm Fire Station?) to have a shower there. Hahaha. At the rest house, there was only one bathroom. So, we were told to walk to Pusat Belia, a building near the rest house. There, we took shower and changed into our casual attire. Then we went back to the rest house for LUNCH!
(After changing! Heheh. Left to right: Dhi and me)
(On the bus, moving on to our next destination after lunch. With Haru-chan)
The lunch was awesome! I mean, the foods. Hahah. I ate together with everyone in the restaurant inside the rest house. The menu was...chicken, mixed vegetables, fruits...and others. They were all yummy and I ate quite a lot. Because I was hungry! I didn't take any photos while in the restaurant. Damn! I just realized it once we got into the bus. Anyway, we chatted while we were eating and without we realizing it, it was already time to move to our next destination. So, we all got our things and got into the bus. Again, according to the group earlier. The journey took about half an hour.
(Arrived at Sibut Long House)
(The entrance)
Here was our second destination for the day! Sibut Long House. A long house is...as I mentioned in my previous entry, a house where the local people are living. Before I went there, in my imagination, long house was a long wooden, old house but then, after I arrived at Sibut Long House...haha. It was not like how I imagined a long house is. As soon as we got out of the bus, a music made by traditional music instruments could be heard from inside the long house and the people welcomed us very warmly.
(Inside the long house, during the briefing session)
Inside, the people of the Long House, welcomed us with a speech and gave us some information about the house. Like when was the house built, how many people are living there, etc. Everyone was surprised when the speaker said that there is about 90+ people living there. After the short briefing, we were told to look at the local products exhibition that they already prepared for us. There are a lot of them. These people in the long house are very creative. They make things like their native dresses, and stuffs (too lazy to list them down)
(That 'hat' *I don't know what is it called* is one of the products they made)
(Everyone was busy taking a look at the products)
(Things the people in long house made)
After taking a close look at their products, we were then welcomed to look at the inside of the home stay of the long house, place where the tourists who come will stay :) The inside was so COOL! They have a television with big screen (Which was at that time playing the recorded match between Spain and...France, I think). And upstairs, there are two rooms. I went to look at one of the room and WOAH! So cool. I wish I could one day stay there with my husband and children. Hahah.
(Homestay)
(Me and Winnie The Pooh, at the home stay upstairs)
(With Belle)
When we done touring the home stay, we were told that the people of the long house were going to show us a performance so we all rushed outside. And when everyone was ready, the young girls of the long house came out and danced their traditional dance, wearing their traditional clothes. They are so pretty especially the first girl that came out. The boys were whistling, excited. The dance was pretty cool. After they showed us their dance, the Tuai (the leader in the long house) told some of us to join and dance together with the young dancer. I wanted to go but so embarrassing. Only some of us came to front and danced with the dancer, including Mat, the funny guy in my Geography class.
Then, they asked for us to perform something for them! Hahaha xD So we just danced the simple dance called 'Poco-poco'. Me and Haru-chan joined this time but we didn't know the steps at all. I kept stepping onto people's feet. I'm so sorry! But then slowly, I managed to follow the steps! It was really fun!
(The young beautiful dancers dancing their traditional dance)
(We, watching the performance with excitement)
(Some of our friends joined the dancers)
(When we danced Poco-Poco! Can you spot Haru-chan there?)
(The dancers)
It was really fun dancing Poco-Poco with everyone! Okay, after the performance, we were brought by the people of the Long House to the river not far from the house. We walked there together with them and when we arrived there, the view was really amazing! And the small kids of the long house quickly got into the water and showed us some pretty swimming tactics. After that, a lot of us also got into the water including Haru-chan. I didn't because I was wearing shoes that time and too lazy to take them off so I was just watching from a far. At first Rikia, Belle and some other friends were just dipping their feet in the water while holding each other hands but then one of them lost balance and fell into the water (whole body) so, the other fell as well. It was like domino effect, ya know. Me, who was watching from a far, laughed so hard when I saw that. They were all wet! From head to toes. But instead of quickly left the water, they swam and played with the water.
(On our way to the river)
(Arrived at the river!)
(One of the kids that showed us fantastic swimming moves!)
(Some of my friends who went into the water)
(Belle! This was just before she got wet!)
After having fun at the river, everyone got out of the water and headed back to the Long House. There, Belle, Rikia and others who got wet from head to toes were brought inside the house to change. Meanwhile the rest of us headed straight away to the 'Taman Reakreasi Tasik Buluh Aie Merah', a park at the other side of the long house. There, there was big lake with fishes in the water! The boys saw three 'rakit' at the other side of the lake and became excited as they quickly ran there. Me and Haru-chan also ran with them to the other side of the lake! The boys excitedly carried the heavy 'rakit' and put them on the water and impatiently got on to it! Only two people are supposed to get onto a 'rakit' at one time but the boys they didn't follow the rule and three of them got on it which caused the 'rakit' lost balance and sank. Stupid boys. Hahah. But it was fun to watch their childish acts. Me and Haru laughed really hard! Especially when another two boys that got the 'rakit' they were on turned upside down and they both fell into the water and got wet from head to toes! Hahah! What is a 'rakit'? Check out the photos below!
(The boys excitedly carried the 'rakit' to put it onto the water surface)
(The three of them got onto the 'rakit' at same time)
(The 'rakit' couldn't hold the weight of three people so it started to sink)
(Finally one of them got our of the 'rakit' and yay! The 'rakit' didn't sink so these two started paddling)
(The two boys who got their 'rakit' upside down!)
(Yay! They all managed to balance the rakits at last and started racing to the other side of the lake)
When they were racing, me and Haru-chan was shouting, supporting Mat. He was the one wearing blue shirt with cap. Man, the boys were so excited and it was funny to see them acting that childish. It's rare to see them like that. I laughed really hard! Who won? Of course Mat's team! Hahah. I really love the part when Mat was paddling while singing a song, an old song. So FUNNY!
(Me, while watching the boys)
(Me, taking a picture as memory with two of the dancers earlier near the lake)
Time flew so fast without we realizing it. It was already time for us to say good bye to all the people of the long house. I was sad that we had to leave. The visit there was really fun! All of them were so nice and welcoming. They are all very friendly! I wished we could stay for a night there but we couldn't. Before we left the Long House and the people, we all took a group picture for memory.
(A photo of memory. Can you see me there? GOOD! Oh, can you see Haru-chan there? Hahah. She was busy fighting with 'something' but she was there! Believe me!)
After saying bye to everyone there, we got into the bus and headed straight to the port. It was already time when we should go back to Brunei Muara District. It was so sad that we had to leave T.T but we got no choice.
(See the sign there? It says, 'Departing')
(Getting onto the boat, one by one, very carefully)
(Bye...Temburong! We'll miss you)
The journey back to the BSB jetty only took about 30-45 minutes. When we arrived there, some of my friends already had their parents waiting for them. It was finally time for us to separate. After saying bye to all of my friends, me and Haru-chan went wandered around BSB. We were acting completely like real tourists and we even talked in Malaysian dialect! Hahah. We met two friends who were also heading to Yayasan, a shopping building in BSB so we walked together with them.
(At the water front, BSB)
(With the two friends. At Yayasan, BSB)
After separated from our friends, me and Haru-chan didn't go straight home. We walked to my mom work place, not far from there. At my mom place, we bought ABC! And waited for my father to come to pick us up. I arrived home at around 7:30 pm after dropping Haru-chan at her house.
That day, I was having so much fun!! I really wish to go there again! and stay at the Long House! :D Okay, that's it! Ah, please ignore all my grammatical errors and spelling errors, okay? My fingers are hurting already from typing this super long post! That's all :D
